assignments
Below are brief descriptions of a selection of assignments we have undertaken.
Fund Building Limited
Fund Building is a company which works to raise money for its clients. Whether those clients are in the fund management industry, or the broader financial services sector, Fund Building develops investment propositions, not in isolation but with client senior management, and takes those propositions to regulated investment buyers in the UK, continental Europe, the Arabian Gulf, and Asia.
We've worked with the Company (and its predecessor) from its inception, providing systems advice and support. This has involved building networking solutions (including thee office moves), web development, systems procurement, including a Customer Relationship Management system, and user support.
We connected directors' houses with their office via a Virtual Private Network (VPN) and created centralised file and print services for users on the network. In addition to providing access to work files from the directors' homes, secure remote access is also available from anywhere on the internet via the VPN. The Debian GNU/Linux file server is backed up automatically each night to a backup Debian server at a separate location. In the event of systems failure, deletion of files by mistake or corruption due to viruses or malware, full snapshots of backup files, going back six months, are available to users
We have subsequently installed an IMAP mailserver which means users can access their mail from any PC connected to the VPN; a combination of spam and anti-virus tools clean most of the mail before it gets anywhere near a Windows PC, thereby reducing the risk of infection and cutting down spam.
Snug&Outdoor
Snug & Outdoor are artists who work with children and adults in innovative ways to design dynamic playgrounds that are imaginative, safe and fun.
Initially we set up a LocalArea Network (LAN) with broadband access for their studio office and provided systems support.
Being a visually creative business they had design skills to create an impressive website but lacked the technical expertise to make it happen. We worked with them creating the website structure and templates for their designs and photographs.
We installed (Debian GNU/Linux) file and backup servers and a Virtual Private Network (VPN). All their work files are saved on the file server and backed up automatically overnight to a separate server. In addition, snapshots of previous backups, going back six months, are available, enabling users to retrieve files that may have been deleted accidentally or in the event of systems failure. The VPN allows the two partners to access their work files from home and remotely using laptops connected to the internet.
We continue to provide systems advice, web development and support.
APYFC
APYFC, in North London, runs organised youth football teams. This season, twenty-two APYFC teams are competing in the Watford Friendly League which is sponsored by
Watford Football Club. Some teams also compete in other cup matches including the Middlesex County Cup and the Amateur Football Association Cup.
CMA was asked to design and implement a multifunctional website to provide information on the football club and to keep members of the teams fully informed of fixtures, scores, managers' messages and other useful information. Over the last four seasons the site has evolved; a server-side database feeds the website, which enables senior management and team managers to add information using a secure web-based interface.
The young audience delights in keeping track of scores, match reports etc. and the managers vie to get their scores input first.
We continue to support the site with regular updating and refinement, hosting and email support and seasonal redesign.
Thomas Holding Limited
Thomas Holding Limited is a Cheltenham based construction firm which has established a reputation for high quality workmanship in the town and surrounding area.
The company has achieved civic awards for its restoration work helping to preserve some historic buildings and monuments. In addition, it is known for high quality building in housing and the local government sector.
We were asked to design a website which demonstrates the depth and breadth of their skill base and their reputation for personal service.
We were asked to develop and establish an online presence which involved:
- registering the domain name
- designing and building a website
- negotiating and securing hosting
- setting up mailboxes and managing email addresses
- ongoing maintenance and development
Alladdin Limited
Alladdin Lotteries Limited is the creator and manager of The Premiership Lotter-e™, Britain's first official online lottery. It is registered with The Gaming Board for Great Britain as an External Lotteries Manager to manage third party lotteries. It is working with lottery partners in the UK, Ireland, USA and Brazil.
From the outset, we have worked closely with Alladdin and its technology partners, (currently New Media Lottery Services in Canada) to create and manage lotteries, both in the UK and overseas; we continue to provide support across all of Alladdin's activities.
Soup Dragon
Soup Dragon designs and sells an unusual range of childrens' toys and clothing. In addition to two retail sites in London (Crouch End and East Dulwich), the company has the Family Natural Health Centre (renting space to alternative therapists), a North London office (some of which is sublet) and a warehouse.
Initially we were asked to create a temporary website as they had being paying an ISP for webhosting but the site was empty. We quickly created a simple site at www.soup-dragon.co.uk with photographs showing details of the type of merchandise on offer and contact details.
Meanwhile, it became apparent that the internal accounting systems and controls had failed and we were asked to help re-establish financial control. In addition, the business required restructuring following the departure of one of the partners in the business. We took on the role of strategic advisor and have helped to turn the company around by:
- Establishing financial controls and overseeing the appointment of new accountants
- Installing and supporting a peer-to-peer network and upgrading the accounting systems
- Producing management accounts and business plan, negotiating with bankers and lawyers to refinance the business and buy out the ex-partner.
We have installed ADSL Broadband and a Local Area Network at two locations.
